Indian Navy MR 2021 – MR stands for Matrix Recruit. MR is a post in Indian navy and the work of Indian navy is protect us from the attract or invasion by sea route. There is lots of post in Indian navy and the work is different for different post. What is MR?

Basically, MR means matrix requirements which directly means the recruitment of tenth pass students. MR is also known as sailors and in sailors, there are 3 type of post according their work such as chef, stewart and Hygienist.

Job Specifications

All three posts of sailor have different duties and cannot interfere in each work. At the time of filling the application form, candidate’s have to set the preference of the post.

  • CHEF – On this post, you have to prepare both vegetarian and non vegetarian food and you have to maintain the ration and other duties.
  • STEWARD – Food is to be served at the officer’s table and also cover these duties such as waiter, housekeeping, accounting of fund, wine and stores, preparation of the menu etc.
  • Hygienist – Clean the washroom as well as floor and other areas and other duties as per service requirements.

Indian Navy MR 2021 Eligibility criteria

Every year, almost 400 vacancies are out and almost 50,000 forms are filled by the candidate’s. Here is given eligibility criteria.

Gender criteria

  • Only male candidate’s are eligible for MR.

Martial status

  • Candidate’s must be un-married

Age criteria

  • Candidate’s age should be at least 17 and at most 20 year’s old.

Education Qualifications

  • Candidate’s have mandatory to passed in class 10.

Medical criteria/physical requirements

  • Height should be at least 157 cms.
  • Weight should be according to height weight ratio chart.
  • Candidate’s should be physically and mentally fit and free from any defect.

Note – permanent tattoo acceptable only from the elbow to wrist and back of the palm otherwise candidate’s will be disqualified.

MR Selection procedure

To get post of MR, candidate’s have to qualify these 3 stages such as written exam, PFT and medical. Let’s talk about detailed procedure of all three stages.

Written examination

For written exam, a candidate’s have to first go to official website and fill up the application form. After that their admit card comes and After that, download the admits card from official website and take print out of it then go to the exam center according to alloted date ,time and venue which is available on the admit card and attend the exam and after 1 month approx, result will be declared.

If the candidate’s clears the written examination, they will be informed through email and SMS and their call letter will be generate on the official website then they to go to the alloted centre for PFT. Now let’s talk about PFT.


Physical fitness test (PFT) As its name suggests, there will be a physical test of fitness. PFT qualify is mandatory for selection. Candidate’s have to complete the below requirements.

  • 1.6 km running complete in 7 minutes.
  • 20 squats
  • 10 push-ups

Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of these three tests and called for medical test.

Medical test

Medical examination will be done by an authorized military doctor’s. In medical tests, your height, weight, chest expansion and full body checkup is done.

  • Chest expansion 5 cm more then the normal.

  • Vision

If the candidate’s remains unfit in the medical test, then they can apply for Specialist Review within 21 days for which you will have to pay ₹ 40.

Note – Before medical examination, tartar removed from teeth ear removed for wax.

After being selected from here, you will be sent to INS Chilka for medical again. After being selected from there, candidate’s will be finally selected.

If the vacancy is low and there is a tie between the two candidates then the same candidate will be selected who had more Mark’s in class Xth.

How to apply for MR?

If candidate’s have already given this exam, then they can apply again with the old email id and mobile number and if you are new candidate’s then you have to registered as a new candidate’s. Procedure is given below.

Application form

Candidate’s have no other option than online application form. First, candidate’s have to visit to the official website of Indian Navy then they have to registered yourself by entering required details then applicant have to fill the entire required details like personal information, academic qualifications, communication details etc

Upload documents

Candidate’s have to upload all the required documents by self attested.

  • Document required
  • Class 10th mark-sheet/certificate
  • Domicile certificate
  • NCC certificate (if held)
  • Passport size photograph

Note – Photo must be in good quality will blue background.
All the documents have to carried on all stage of examination such as written exam, PFT and final enrollment medical at INS chilka.


The last step is payment, candidate’s have to pay the application fees and payment can be done via credit card, debit card and net banking. If the candidate’s registers on the last day, they gets 1 more day for payment. Application form fee as per given table.


Before final submission, candidate’s have to check again all the details which are filled by them. If the details filled by candidate’s are found to be incorrect at any stage then their selection will be cancelled even after training.

Indian Navy MR 2021 Pay and Perquisites

Let’s talk about salary, promotion, Perquisites and insurance which is given at the time of training and jobs.

Pay and allowances

  • 14,600 per month during the training period.
  • After initial training, 21,700 to 69,100.
  • MSP 5,200 per month plus DA.


Promotion only at the post of master chef petty officer – I and there salary is 47,600 to 1,51,000 along with MSP 5,200 per month. This opportunity of promotion is only for those candidate’s who performed well in exam.


During as well as after the entire period of training, the sailors are given books, reading material, uniforms, food and accommodation as per eligibility.


  • Rs 50,00,000 is acceptable to cover insurance for sailors.
