Indian Navy MR 2024 – MR stands for Matrix Recruit. MR is a post in the Indian navy and the work of the Indian navy is to protect us from the attraction or invasion by sea route. There is lots of post in the Indian navy and the work is different for a different post. What is MR?
Basically, MR means matrix requirements which directly means the recruitment of tenth-pass students. MR is also known as sailors and in sailors, there is 3 type of post according to their work such as chef, Stewart, and Hygienist.
Job Specifications
All three posts of sailors have different duties and cannot interfere in each work. At the time of filling out the application form, candidates have to set their preferences for the post.
- CHEF – In this post, you have to prepare both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food and you have to maintain the ration and other duties.
- STEWARD – Food is to be served at the officer’s table and also covers these duties such as waiter, housekeeping, accounting of funds, wine and stores, preparation of the menu, etc.
- Hygienist – Clean the washroom as well as the floor and other areas and other duties as per service requirements.

Every year, almost 400 vacancies are out and almost 50,000 forms are filled by the candidates. Here are given eligibility criteria.
Gender criteria
- Only male candidates are eligible for MR.
Martial status
- Only unmarried candidates are eligible.
Age criteria
- The candidate’s age should be at least 17 and at most 20 years old.
Education Qualifications
- Candidates have mandatory to pass class 10.
Medical criteria/physical requirements
- Height should be at least 157 cm.
- Weight should be according to the height-weight ratio chart.
- Candidates should be physically and mentally fit and free from any defect.

Note – permanent tattoos are acceptable only from the elbow to wrist and back of the palm otherwise candidates will be disqualified.
MR Selection procedure
To get a post of MR, candidates have to qualify for these 3 stages such as a written exam, PFT, and medical. Let’s talk about the detailed procedure of all three stages.
Written examination
For a written exam, a candidate has to first go to the official website and fill up the application form. After that their admit card comes and After that, download the admit card from the official website and take a printout of it then go to the exam centre according to the allotted date, time, and venue which is available on the admit card and attend the exam and after 1 month approx, the result will be declared.
If the candidates clear the written examination, they will be informed through email and SMS and their call letter will be generated on the official website then they to go to the allotted centre for PFT. Now let’s talk about PFT.
PFT
Physical fitness test (PFT) As its name suggests, there will be a physical test of fitness. PFT qualify is mandatory for selection. Candidates have to complete the below requirements.
- 1.6 km running completely in 7 minutes.
- 20 squats
- 10 push-ups
Candidates will shortlist on the basis of these three tests and call for medical tests.
Medical test
Medical examination will be done by an authorized military doctor. In medical tests, your height, weight, chest expansion, and full body checkup are done.
- Chest expansion 5 cm more than normal.
- Physical requirements
- Vision
If the candidates remain unfit for the medical test, then they can apply for Specialist Review within 21 days for which you will have to pay ₹ 40.
Note – Before the medical examination, tartar is removed from the teeth ear is removed for wax.
After being selected from here, you will be sent to INS Chilka for medical again. After being selected from there, candidates will be finally selected.
If the vacancy is low and there is a tie between the two candidates then the same candidate will be selected who had more marks in class Xth.
How to apply for MR?
If candidates have already given this exam, then they can apply again with the old email id and mobile number and if you are a new candidate then you have to register as a new candidate. The procedure is given below.
Application form
Candidates have no other option than an online application form. First, candidates have to visit the official website of the Indian Navy then they have to register themselves by entering the required details then applicants have to fill in the entire required details like personal information, academic qualifications, communication details, etc
Upload documents
Candidates have to upload all the required documents by self-attested.

- Class 10th mark sheet/certificate
- Domicile certificate
- NCC certificate (if held)
- Passport size photograph
Note – The photo must be of good quality will a blue background.
All the documents have to carry on all stages of examination such as a written exam, PFT, and final enrollment medical at INS Chika.
Payment
The last step is payment, candidates have to pay the application fees and payment can be done via credit card, debit card, and net banking. If the candidate registers on the last day, they get 1 more day for payment. Application form fee as per the given table.

Before final submission, candidates have to check again all the details which are filled in them. If the details filled in by candidates are found to be incorrect at any stage then their selection will be cancelled even after training.
Let’s talk about salary, promotion, Perquisites, and insurance which are given at the time of training and jobs.
Pay and allowances
- 14,600 per month during the training period.
- After initial training, 21,700 to 69,100.
- MSP 5,200 per month plus DA.
Promotion
Promotion only at the post of master chef petty officer – I and their salary is 47,600 to 1,51,000 along with MSP 5,200 per month. This opportunity for promotion is only for those candidates who performed well in exams.
Perquisites
During as well as after the entire period of training, the sailors are given books, reading material, uniforms, food, and accommodation as per eligibility.
Insurance
- Rs 50,00,000 is acceptable to cover insurance for sailors.
