Indira Gandhi Scholarship 2023 – Families, particularly those in rural regions, are continually urged to send their girls to school as part of the GOI (Government of India) programme of “education for all.” The overriding objective of women’s empowerment includes the significance of educating young girls. The Indira Gandhi Single Female Child Scholarship, created and administered by University Grants Education (UGC), is dedicated to giving single female children in their families financial support for postgraduate coursework. Let’s learn more about this scholarship, which was established to support women’s empowerment and female education in India.

Indira Gandhi Single Girl Child Scholarship Scheme

In India, it is crucial to encourage girls because of their disadvantage owing to poverty as well as the discrimination they experience from culture or their parents. Every year, the government of India offers the IGSGCS (Indira Gandhi Single Girl Child Scholarship), which benefits over 3,000 girls from all throughout the nation. For a total of two years, the girls will be eligible to receive 3,100 Rupees per month. They will receive this funding in order to complete their education.

Objective

In order to raise awareness about girl education in India, UGC developed this programme in response to the low competitive literacy rate among girls (which stands at 65.4% compared to an 80% illiteracy rate for boys). The two goals of this plan are as follows:

  • Supporting a family’s lone girl kid financially so she can enrol in a postgraduate programme
  • Understand the critical importance of a modest family structure.
